The Nails Corn street, Bristol. The four Nails are on the pavement outside the Corn Exchange. These round topped pedestals dating from the 16th and 17th centuries were used by merchants when closing a sale. Money was placed on the surface of a Nail, signifying the bargain had been struck, hence the expression: Paying on the nail or Cash on the nail - Paul Box - 2016-03-17
