Rescuing artworks from the Florence Floods, Italy, 1966. The floods in Florence in early November 1966 were the worst in over five hundred years and resulted in the loss of over 100 Florentine lives as well as damage to thousands of cultural artefacts, including ancients books, paintings and sculptures. Damaged paintings on the back of a truck en route from the Ufizzi Gallery to the Palazzo Pitti Gallery where they will be kept at humidified temperatures for many months prior to restoration by experts. - Romano Cagnoni - 1966-11-11
