File details

The longest continuous row of prefabs still surviving in Britain today, these sixteen homes can be found in Wake Green Road, Birmingham. The prefab was a single storey small home, infact a bungalow, they were built in prefabricated kit form, and then assembled on site to house people who's homes were destroyed by German bombing during the Second World War. Most of the country's prefabs have now gone, having been replaced by modern homes, English Heritage got this now unique row of prefabs listed. - David Mansell - 2005-05-07
