Macdoel, California: Migrant Mexican farmworkers pick the flowers, fruit and runners off strawberry plants in a field belonging to Lassen Canyon Nursery. Workers lie on padded benches in a machine pulled by a tractor, so that they are very close to the plants and can accurately pick off the flowers and fruit. The work requires skill, and many workers are older and have been doing this for many years. They work for the grower for six or seven months and then leave to find work elsewhere. - David Bacon - 2013-08-16
